INSTRUCTIONS
REMOVAL OF COLD END FROM DRIVE ASSEMBLY
Disconnect all electrical power from the pumping unit, tag the circuit breakers.
Secure the cryogenic fluid side of the pump (high and low pressure).
Disconnect the suction, vent, and discharge lines from the cold end.
Cap or plug all lines and fittings to prevent excess moisture from entering the cryogenic lines or cold end.
Remove the suction adapter.
Suction gasket will have to be replaced.
Inspect suction filter and clean or replace as necessary.
An unusually dirty filter indicates either poor preventative maintenance or a dirty system.
Slide acrylic shield (on the drive end assembly) forward to expose the opening in the intermediate.
Rotate pump by hand until the end of the Piston is visible in intermediate window.
Loosen Setscrew in end of cold end Piston.
Unscrew Piston from Crosshead via spanner holes located at the end of piston.
Loosen Locknut and unscrew cold end from drive assembly. Use a strap wrench if necessary.
ASSEMBLY OF COLD END TO DRIVE ASSEMBLY
Rotate Drive Shaft until Crosshead is in Top-Dead-Center (TDC) position (fully forward).
Screw Piston onto the Crosshead. The Cold End may also start threading onto the Intermediate, attached to the Drive Housing.
Continue rotating Cold End until it bottoms-out against the Drive.
Make certain that the Piston is fully screwed onto the Crosshead.
Tighten the Piston to the Crosshead.
Tighten the Setscrew to lock the Piston in position on the Crosshead.
Take note of the position of the discharge port on the Cold End. If it is beyond 6 o’clock, rotate the Cold End counterclockwise until the discharge port is up. If the discharge port is not beyond 6 o’clock, rotate the Cold End counterclockwise one and a half times until the discharge port is up.
(This prevents the piston from bottoming out on the valve body.)
Tighten the locking nut on the Cold End to secure it to the Drive End.
